In
May 2004 the Collingham Local History Society held an exhibition of local Scout
and Guide Movement memorabilia, in the Jubilee Room, Swinderby Road. It was very successful and happily visited by
local people and visitors. Scouts & Guides, Ex-Scouts and Guides, and
non-members all found it fascinating.
Over 150 items were on display. The first
Collingham Scout company was formed before 1913, and the first Guide Company in
1914. The exhibition also disclosed that lots of archives and items were lost when the
Collingham Scout and Guide hut was destroyed by fire in 2002.

There's
so much to see, and so many memories! Well, it beggars belief that there is so
much historical material in the village. Now what's this under here?
Good
gracious here's some more exhibits. Where have they all come from? Just look at these old fashioned
uniforms, weren't they smart though. This is amazing!
Let's
start by looking around at the exhibits. Have you seen this old cutting? I'm
sure I recognise these youngsters. Maybe I was one of them!
"Ooh!
look, there's me!" A visitor to Collingham, who had lived in the village
some years ago, called in to see the exhibition 'on spec' and was thrilled to bits
to rediscover herself in one of the displayed photographs of yesteryear.
"Let's
have a closer look!" And is
that Marion taking a well-earned rest behind the God Save the King
banner? Doesn't the picture present a lot of posers!
"Wow!
here's a find. Look at all these names from the past . . . And what about all
these pictures - who took them all? And who mounted and presented them? This is
a really wonderful exhibition - I'm so glad we came."
What
are Beavers?
What
are Rainbows?
