EAST TRENT CHURCHES
|
|
There were many 'events' going on inside and around the Church, but outside was a Teddy Bear Parachute Jump from the newly finial'd tower! At a previous practice run it was decided that any high wind might spoil the event - so a sort of chair-lift was invented and built (The Basket Lift). It was a roaring success. Teddies were attracted from far and wide, and belonged to children of all ages! See if you can work out how it operates from the photos below, and enjoy the fun . . . Click photos below to enlarge, then . . . Click <-- back button (top left) to return to this page Photographs © by David Collins Hello! Is that a Teddy we see going up to the top of the tower?
David and Steven Tingle, and Paul Cottam did a marvellous job in creating and operating the 'Basket Lift' for the Teddies. And who is that receiving the basket? It's Steven up there on the Launch Pad.
Yet more Teddies take to the air. It seems a very popular event. Teddies are appearing by the dozen!
Good morning folks, this is your pilot speaking. Prepare for takeoff! David shows his skill at air-lifting time.
Three experienced fliers! An Air Museum Bear, one from the Shuttleworth Trust, and the other from East Midlands. (They belong to Marion - our PCC Secretary)
Crash landing! May we please have some Stretcher Bearers!!? Carole, Helena and Pat oblige.
The First Aid Post. Pat, Helena, and Carole were Duty Nurses! With Ward Sister Marion casting a professional eye over the proceedings!! All Teddies were officially 'treated' here (and certificated) after their descent into the Yew Tree!!
Up, up in the sky. We have lift-off! Three Davids watch as another Teddy ascends to the Tower Station! David Tingle and David Cobb were the Ground Controllers, and David Johnson (nearest camera) is taking a break from ringing the bells for the occasion.
Photographer David says: 'Biggles Bear' is so dazed after his descent into the Yew Tree that he doesn't know whether he is here or upside down in Australia!!! Steven and Revd David pose for an 'Advertiser' photographer - up the tower. It's rather high when you're on top, and he was being encouraged to lean further out for a good shot!!! Quite a tall order!
The Yew Tree breaks the fall for another crash landing of Teddies. But all were safe when attended to by our resident nurses!
Biggles Bear in all his finery. He made a special contribution to the Teddies Tower event.
