FLOWERS
AT ALL SAINTS CHURCH Flower
arranging is a very relaxing hobby. It helps if one has a few lessons to begin,
as I did, then enthusiasm takes over. I
lived in the Parish of St.Peter, West Blatchington in Hove, Sussex for 29
years, where I was a regular communicant and "graduated" to doing
Altar flowers. I helped organise a Flower Festival to celebrate the Church millennium,
quite a task for a mere beginner as we all were, but were duly praised for our
efforts. Since
moving to Collingham I took my turn in arranging the flowers at All Saints
Church in remembrance of family anniversaries etc. When Mrs. Madge Linngard
passed away, I took over the flower duties on joining the Altar Guild. We
have a very dedicated team of arrangers, who have decorated the Church for
numerous weddings and our work has been generously admired. In
June 1990 I was asked to arrange a Flower Festival to raise funds for repairs to
the Church Tower. Together with other members of the Parish who prepared teas
and a Barn Dance a total of £2000 was raised. We were extremely pleased to have
the services of very experienced flower arrangers to help us. Sadly
we no longer have fresh flowers in Church, except for special occasions, such as
Christmas, Easter and weddings. We were reluctant for this to happen but as we
had numerous items stolen it was decided to keep the Church locked. However,
the generosity of the Parishioners enables me to seek out really lifelike silk
flowers, so our Church is always decked with flowers, which we change with the
Seasons. So
it is with thanks to Margaret Key, Margaret Rowland, Thelma Tingle, Glennis
Muscroft, Marion Collins, Eirlys Cholerton and occasionally Elizabeth Shillito,
we can ensure our Church always looks beautiful displaying God's flowers to
their full glory. Megan
