Pat and Nick prepare the candles ready for the illumination of the crib.

The first candle is lit, and away we go . . .

Whilst Pat and Marion light the candles as quickly as safety will allow, Nick guides children (and parents) to the best placements . . .

The queues to light candles for the crib stretched right round the Church.

In the meantime the rest of the congregation sang a well know carol, with Carole and Philippa at the organ and flute . . .

'Can I place a candle Gran?' You certainly can. Meanwhile the singing continued . . .

Just here! Hold her steady Daddy . . .

The crib was now complete, with full lighting effects. Each candle a child's personal contribution . . .

Next Revd David invited all the children who desired to come and look at the wonderful spectacle

Again the aisles were packed with children, their parents and grandparents, queuing to visit the crib. A veritable pilgrimage!  One mother said to the official photographer about her little boy "He wants to see the Baby Jesus". This explained it all!

During the proceedings, in another part of the Church there was some investigating to be done . . !

Noisy Crib 21.JPG (88118 bytes)

All seemed happy to be taking part in the service . . .

Noisy Crib 22.JPG (80685 bytes)

Many were in party outfits for the special occasion . . .

And, our three music-helpers waited patiently for the last carol . . .

At the exit Marion handed each child an envelope (what did it contain?). And in the background darkness Revd David was also handing out little gifts (what were they?).

Everyone went home looking very happy indeed. NEXT: Roll on Christmas Day and Father Christmas . . .
