When the camera team visited Girton Christmas Fair in December 2004, the weather was bright and warm enough for the Rector and customers to meet outside the Village Hall to take refreshments. Note the welcoming Christmas tree!
The Village Church was bathed in sunshine. And the number of parked cars in the lane augured well for the Girton Christmas Fair.
Inside the beautifully decorated hall, trade was brisk. Councillor and Mrs Shilito from Collingham, together with other special guests, were doing their best to encourage visitors to spend and swell the Church's coffers.
Coffee (or tea if preferred) and mince pies was doing a roaring trade. And chance for a well deserved sit down to catch up with the local news! The table decorations were a work of art. For sale? Yes.
Aren't they brilliant? This is knitting and crocheting of a high standard. Are they all hand made? "Well, nearly all". Can you spot those which are made locally, and those which are bought-in articles? Two or three of the little chaps found their way into our take-home bag!
What gorgeous Christmas cakes, are they made in the Village? "Yes, some have been ordered for customers, and others are for sale." Well, they really do look professional. You can very nearly taste them from here!
Revd David has a chat with some of the visitors, whilst inside the busy kitchen work for the refreshments continues.
Those jars give a clue to lots of hard work and skill by the local jam and pickle makers. And the locally made Christmas Wreaths round the walls were also for sale. A jar of Cranbury Jelly with brandy was particularly well received!
Meanwhile there's Diz still organising and serving refreshments to guests and workers. Is that a drop of more serious liquid she's offering?! And in the background is the Christmas Quiz organiser and the winner's hamper - it looks very inviting.
A last look round and chat before calling it a day. Nick with the Collingham visitors share a smile or two. In the meantime Sally is still attending to some last minute young visitors at her stall
Time to call it a day? Yes. It's been a very successful Christmas Fair, and everyone is to be congratulated on their splendid work and presentations.
Hey! Look at these raffle prizes. Will we be the lucky winners? Can my son be in the photo too? Of course. So he came and posed beautifully for the camera; don't you agree? We've had a lot of fun today. All we're waiting for now is Santa! OR:
