EAST TRENT CHURCHES
|
The Collingham Summer Fete in June 2006 was held in the beautiful garden of Heather and Andrew Wallace. It was extra special in that it was opened by Mrs Narracott, who is of course the mother of our churchwarden Nick. And Mrs Narracott made a wonderfully gracious job of launching the proceedings, and encouraging everyone to Join in, Enjoy themselves, Have Fun and support the historic local churches. The flower beds are magnificent, but the spacious lawns are starting to suffer in the hottest Summer on record. Must have been a difficult task and a lot of effort on Heather and Andrew's part to make it all look so lovely for the event.
This looks interesting, let's have a quick look round while the stall-holders are putting the final touches to their wares. What super flowers, and the children's toys are attractive too, aren't they?
But, wait a moment. Revd. David in shirt-sleeve order gives a warm welcome to everyone - voluntary workers and visitors - and introduces Mrs Narracott (known to her many friends as Doris), who really needs no introduction to the people of Collingham. It was a very warm welcome in every sense!
In the sweltering heat, ninety year old Doris thanks everyone for their attendance. Also the hosts for their kindness in allowing their garden to be used for the occasion, the stall holders for giving up their valuable time; and officially opens the Fete, with the traditional annual plea to spend readily in the interests of the local churches and charity.
Now it's Churchwarden Marie's turn to say a big thank you to Doris for her support and for opening the proceedings. What a remarkable lady.
NEXT, a very special young man puts aside his inhibitions to present Mrs Narracott with a lovely basket of flowers. All very smoothly done.
AND, a very special young lady coyly presents Mrs Heather Wallis with a lovely basket of flowers as a big thank you to her and her husband Andrew for being such splendid hosts.
LET Battle commence!! The stalls are now open and everyone is set to have a very enjoyable time, spending - buying, and competing, or having a little flutter on the tombola stall.
The Ice-cream stall did a roaring trade. Hmmn, that really does look (taste) good.
OR, maybe an afternoon cream tea in a shady corner. There's nothing quite as restful as a quiet cuppa in a shady corner at a Summer Fete!
Seeking the shade was a pleasant pastime for everyone, stall-holders included.
There were games to play in some corners of the garden. Fore!! They teach them young these days. See, does the ball go down this little hole? We need some expert advice here!
It was a lovely afternoon, with something for everyone: young, nearly young, and growing up! And, lots of money was made for the good causes. The sun shone brightly throughout. So, all in all, a great success and a memorable occasion. Congratulations to all concerned.
