Blindness and Beyond

I moved with my parents from Epsom in Surrey to Swinderby in 1980. I started work at Townsend's the butchers on the Green; perhaps some of you will remember it! In 1982 I was travelling back from my girlfriends house in Lincoln. That's when it happened, a moped crossed my path. It resulted in a cracked skull and damaged optic nerve endings. Also little use of my right arm plus other injuries, the blindness being the most serious.

After several years of rehabilitation I heard about the Guide Dog Holidays for the Blind, catering solely for the visually impaired. They have since changed their name to the Winged Fellowship Trust and operate out of Kendal in the Lake District. Little did I know how this would open up my life?

Since 1997 I have been on many adventures of which I will tell you later. These have taken me all over the UK and beyond. My favourite trips being on the tandem. In the summer of 2001 1 moved to Collingham so that I could attend the Balderton Resources Centre in Newark. I go there from Monday to Friday where we have discussion groups, go bowling and generally socialise with others that have physical and learning difficulties. I just love it there. I am also sides-man at St John's and often ring the bell before the service.

My other hobby is archery. I belong to the Lincoln Archers. That reminds me, I am still looking for a volunteer to stand with an apple on their head. No offers !!!!
