Welcome to the East Trent Group, this includes the Comunities and Churches of:- Besthorpe Holy Trinity, Clifton St. George the Martyr, Girton St Cecilia, Harby All Saints Holme St. Giles, Langford St. Bartholemew, North Collingham All Saints, South Collingham St. John the Baptist, South Scarle St. Helena, Thorney St. Helen, and Winthorpe All Saints. It also includes the Communities of:- Brough, Spalford, Swinethorpe, and Wigsley. Welcome to the 2011 archive of front pages. Welcome to the December edition of the site. Christmas is nearly upon us. Are you caught up in the hectic preparation? Have you been out buying presents? Are you traumatised by the thought of cooking Turkey and all the trimmings for 16 members of your family? Have you in fact forgotten what Christmas is all about? If you have then take this opportunity to check through the list of services, both standard and "special" throughout December and plan which ones you will attend to remind yourself what the meaning of Christmas really is. Welcome to the November edition of the site. There have been some changes made in the More About Us page and some of the pages below it to reflect changes in contact information and the people working for our churches. I have also added a reminder that the "Old Web" is not maintained and all the contact information in it either does not work or may be out of date. Welcome to the October edition of the site. The week from the 16th to the 23rd of October was chosen as the Quarter Peal Week for the Newark Branch of the Southwell and Nottingham Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers. This is an annual event where the ringers attempt to ring a quarter peal in all churches in the district with 6 or more bells, with some selected 5 bell towers by request. Quarters were attempted in four of our churches; Harby, North Collingham, South Scarle, and Winthorpe. Unfortunately only the one at Harby was successful. The details are:-
They rang 1260 changes of Plain Bob Doubles in 43 minutes. The band was made up from three ringers from Winthorpe (one of whom lives in Collingham), one from South Scarle, and one from Harby - a benefice band! You may have noticed in the Fleet Magazine that we are currently advertising for more ringers at Winthorpe, if you would like to get involved in a new and fascinating hobby then why not give it a try? Not only is it fun but the tuition is free! I have decided to do a bit of tidying up. All the monthly editions of the site have been edited to remove "dead links" that pointed to the current latest pages. I hope that this reduces confusion! Welcome to the September edition of the site. This month contained routine updates only. Welcome to the August edition of the site. This month contained routine updates only. Welcome to the July edition of the site. Back in February I asked what pages people would like to see moved across from the Old Web Site to the new one and I am sad to say that so far I have had no response at all. Please have a browse through and see if there is anything that catches your eye and let me know. Have you got any ideas about new pages or content for this site? If you have then please e-mail me at with your ideas. If you have attended any of the events advertised on these pages and taken some photos then can you spare the time to write a short piece about it and e-mail it to me with the photos for inclusion on the site? Welcome to the June edition of the site. If you attend any of the events at our churches and have a good time then why keep it to yourself? Write a brief report on it and send it to the , if you can get a few digital photos so much the better. Welcome to the May edition of the site. On Friday the 29th of April the ringers of Winthorpe rang a quarter peal for the royal wedding, commencing at 12.09 as the happy couple emerged from the West door of the Abbey. The band was as follows:-
They rang 1260 changes of Plain Bob Doubles in 41 minutes. Well done! Welcome to the April edition of the site. This month contained routine updates only. Welcome to the March edition of the site. This month Christine Hasman has written an article about the work she has been doing with the parish registers throughout the group. Apologies to all our readers! We have had technical problems this week which has prevented the uploading of Sunday the 20th's Grapevine until Friday the 25th. Still better late than never, it has been uploaded now. Welcome to the February edition of the site. Our Interregnum has now started and David has moved to his new home in the United Benefice of Farndon with Thorpe and Hawton with Cotham. This will end their two year Interregnum. I'm sure that we all hope that David and Kristina settle in to their new home and that David soon gets to grips with his new parish and his new Deanery responsibilities. Thank you both for all that you have done for our benefice over the years. If you want to keep in touch with David I have added an e-mail link to him from the Links page. I have added a report about David's leaving do to our Events page. I have moved across some pages relating to the organs at North and South Collingham and you can find them as buttons on the left of the page here. I have also added two pages about the Organ at South Scarle thanks to Anne Ackroyd and Paul Hale, these can also be found here. Bell ringers from Besthorpe, South Scarle, and Winthorpe rang a quarter peal of Plain Bob Doubles for David's last service in the group. You can find details here (use your browsers back button, top left, to return to this page). They were then joined by another South Scarle ringer and a ringer from Collingham to ring before the service started. If you attended David's last service and took pictures then could you please e-mail them to for inclusion in the site. This site was not easy to navigate in its original form. This was due mainly to its "flat structure" where all the pages were in one folder and the links between the pages had become intertwined over the years. I was not able to move all of the 270 plus pages over to the new format all in one go, so I have moved across the "bare bones" of the site. If you would like a particular page moving across, or if you would like one to not move over, then let me know and if it is a popular choice then I will attend to it. Meanwhile, if you wish to visit the old website (as of the end of December 2010) then please follow the link below to the archive or click on the new menu option "Old Web" at the top of the page. I will gradually move across more pages as I get the time. The archive may never be removed, it will certainly not be removed until all the pages we wish to keep have been moved across. Welcome to the January edition of the site. As you can see everything is "new" this time round. I have also added an extra link to the Links page and tidied it up a bit, I wish someone would have pointed out that we had an incorrect link to the Newark Advertiser. I have also amended the Winthorpe Bells page and added some pages below that. This has meant changing the Contents page as well. I have also updated the Events page to show some of the events that took pale throughout the group in 2010. Remember, this is the last month that David will be with us so please make sure that you attend as many of the services and events as you can. Let's make it a month to remember for him! I have just spent the last day "bomb" proofing the e-mail links from this site. David and I have been getting rather a lot of "spam" from people who trawl through web sites looking for e-mail links and then sell the information to people who want to send out advertising. The links from this site are no-longer machine readable but should work OK for web users so long as they have a java enabled web-browser. If you can see the two e-mail links below to David and me then your browser is OK. If you can not see the links then you need to enable java on your browser. If you are using Firefox then select "Edit" -> "Preferences" and select the "Content" tab. Make sure the "Enable JavaScript" box is ticked, if it isn't then tick it and select "Close". If you are using Microsoft's Internet Explorer then select "Tools" -> "Internet Options" and select the "Advanced" tab. Scroll down the list of options until you see a "Java" box and make sure it is ticked. If it isn't then select it and press the "OK" or "Apply" button. With Internet Explorer you will then have to close it down and start it up again for the changes to be applied. I will be spending the next few days breaking the e-mail links from the "Old Web" so if you want use the e-mail links then please use the ones from the new site. We value your comments as we develop this site.
